Kevin, Winnie, and Movie Picks

Nicely done. Most of you knew that Kevin and Winnie got a little help from their friends on The Wonder Years. And yes, ob-la-di-ob-la-da...Life Goes On! Totally loved those shows. Many props to Amy Jean, who provided not only the correct answers, but also cleared up what happened in the end of The Wonder Years (Traci couldn't remember, I couldn't remember...). Amy Jean reminds us that Kevin and Winnie did not end together, but we all know they will always love each other.

For today, I have decided to share a couple of recent movie picks. I have a long list I've been wanting to share, and figure that task will be best accomplished in installments. Plus I figure it fits well into the category of trivial. This last week we watched a newer movie called Breach. Heard of it? It tells the true story of Robert Hanssen, an FBI agent who, for nearly twenty years, sold confidential US information to the Russians. In the movie, Ryan Phillippe (yes, that's Reese Witherspoon's ex--so sad, I can't talk about it!) plays Eric O' Neill--the agent who helped to catch Hanssen in the act and put him behind bars. (This was all very recent. Hanssen went down in 2001.) Anyway, it's a well-written script, and the acting is great. I was very impressed with Phillippe, as well as Chris Cooper (who plays Hanssen) and Laura Linney (who plays another FBI agent--and by the way, how much do you love her in The Truman Show?!) And for those of you who aren't big on shoot-'em-up movies, it's not one. It's more about the details surrounding the investigation, and how they uncovered it all, etc. I definitely recommend it.

Another one we just watched is called The Color of Paradise. And actually, forget what I said earlier, because this movie is anything but trivial. It's an Iranian film and it's wonderful. It tells the story about a little blind boy and his family and deals with the various challenges that the family faces due to his disability and his single father's struggle to provide for his family. Here's what I love about foreign films: they tell simple stories about realistic people. OK that's a huge generalization, but generally I find it to be true. Anyway, this movie was tender and moving and beautiful. Taylor and I highly recommend it.

We just put Color of Paradise on our que. Mark has seen it but I am looking forward to watching it. Oh and Breach was a good movie too. We really enjoyed it as well.

thanks -- I love how convenient it is to just toggle over to Blockbuster Online and add these. Keep the suggestions coming :) PS you didn't even mention that Winnie (Danika McKellar) went on to be a brilliant Stanford-trained mathematician (in between making cheesy TV movies). Is that great or what?

I'm surprised Jeff and I haven't seen either of those! Watching movies is basically all we've been up to these past few weeks! I'll have to put them in our que. The Wonder Years. I wonder where I was during all those years. I did have 3 brothers surrounding me, so maybe I was outside digging for worms or something.

I have enjoyed a few foreign films too. Have you seen Beautiful Life, I think it won an Academy Award and when it was announced the guy leapt up on his seat. It's a great film!
