The first time I heard The Lower Lights I was sold. It was like the Hymns of Zion meets the 'old timey' music of the O' Brother Where Art Thou? soundtrack. I adore their first album and their Christmas album is tops. And, just when I didn't think I could love them more, they have outdone themselves with their new album, The Lower Lights Volume 2.
Here's why it's my new favorite:
Along with amazing, soul-stirring renditions of favorite LDS hymns, they've included several old Christian spirituals. Ahhhhhh. I couldn't love it more. (And don't think I don't daydream about recording with them. Maybe just some harmonies and a little percussion?)
Another thing I love is that our whole family loves this CD, especially the children. When Carter is sad, Blaine runs and turns on 'I saw the Light' so his baby brother can clap along. And I literally cannot count how many times per car ride the boys beg to hear 'Go down, Moses.'.
