Modern Queen Anne Table

Last November, Taylor sent me a photo text:
 Do you want this table?

I recognized it as the formal, Queen Anne style table he'd grown up eating Sunday dinners on.  It had been used by the family for decades, then by a family friend, and then, one day, it got dropped off at Taylor's office.  He knew I'd been wanting a new table.  I was excited, but skeptical.  Queen Anne is so not our aesthetic.  It's curvy and traditional, and we like more modern, straight lines.  But Taylor, whose show on HGTV would be all about 'where old meets new' (you and your husband don't talk about what your show on HGTV would be?  That's weird ;) got me really excited about giving this traditional table a modern finish.  It's taken the better part of a year (which meant parking my car outside forever!), and a ton of manpower (mine, Taylor's, and a darling boy we hired to paint the chairs--so tedious!), but it is done, and we love it!

You can see from this photo how bad of shape it was in.  It needed a lot of love.  Everything got sanded, primed, painted twice, and finished off with a few coats of polyurethane.   I chose chevron for the chairs and happily wielded my staple gun for that job.  Hopefully we're not sick to death of chevron in 2 years (or less!).  But, if we are, that's the easiest part to re-do!

READY FOR THE BIG REVEAL?  (Between using the word 'aesthetic' and talking about a big reveal, you can tell I watch too much HGTV)...

Next week I'll show you the dresser I painted for the babe's room...and maybe even a picture of the babe...

Having trouble walking, standing, sitting, and sleeping, so hopefully she's coming out soon,
Anne

I've been ripping my toe nails out in anticipation about this reveal! HAHA. Gross, I can't believe I just said that...but really, it is perfect. I LOVE the polyurethane or however you spell that. High gloss is the perfect finishing touch.

Love the transformation! Did you share the paint color in the post and I missed it? Would love to know other details about how you painted it so nicely...we always get brush strokes showing up in our furniture refinishes.
And I'll be waiting for your HGTV series to start. Love that channel too. And yes, I happen to have one of those husbands who likes to watch it too!

Hi Anne with an 'e'! Would you mind sharing the color that you used on this table? I absolutely love it! I know it was over a year ago, so no worries if you don't remember. Just thought I'd ask since I didn't see it mentioned in the comments (unless I missed it). Loved visiting your blog! You have a beautiful family! =) God bless.
