We Belong

I came home from work today to find my gem of a husband up to his elbows in grapefruit-scented Ajax suds. He was taking care of the Mt. Fugi of dishes that had accumulated and had some new downloads playing to keep him and Blaine company. After a rousing classic by the Pet Shop boys ended, the fabulous Pat Benatar came on. She was singing "We Belong" and I was delighted!

Me: Ooooo, you downloaded this?!

Taylor: It reminds me of you.
See, what you may not know, is that back in the day, Taylor saw me perform a lyrical jazz dance to this song with my dance troupe.

The idea that that song conjured up memories (of an eighteen-year-old Anne flitting around the stage in a sparkly purple dance dress) so sweet that they made him want to download it so he could listen to it any time he wanted--that idea made my little heart skip a beat.

If you don't know the song, get to know it. It's a classic. Here are the lyrics to the chorus:

We belong to the light
We belong to the thunder
We belong to the sound of the words
We've both fallen under
Whatever we deny or embrace
For worse or for better
We belong, we belong
We belong together

Cheesy? A bit. '80s? Of course. But for me, it's a memory. And it's tender. And I love it!

That might be my favorite post ever. Love that. Love remembering the 18 year old Anne in a sparkly dress and love your little family. I just want to squeeze you all into a great big sandwich and put you in my pocket! I am so glad you and Tayor got married! I bet Blaine is too.

ps. I put the "how to" link on my blog to post music. Call me if you can't figure it out ok. loveyou.

That is a great song! Way to go Taylor for being so sensitive. If Landon was ever that sensitive I would die of shock!

On the rare occasion that I hear that song on the radio, I definitely have turn it up, but knowing that it was part of your dance recitals with a purple leotard (was it purple?) adds a whole new meaning. I will think of you flittering around on stage next time I hear that song and smile.

So I read this blog yesterday and had that song running through my head all night. Then, I wake up this morning and it is still there. I go watch the horses get new shoes and I am picturing the 3 horses singing it with me. I think the lack of sleep over the past 3 nights is accumulating....who needs drugs? Just have kids and a blog habit.

Taylor is so cute! Doing your dishes and singing songs with Blaine that reminds him of his darling wife! Love that! I am tickled that I know you and Taylor and that we are friends!

I love songs from the '80s. Having a great hubby and wonderful kids makes everything just a little bit sweeter doesn't it?
