I was watching me a little FX network last night because Walk the Line was on. Here's what I love: that movie. Hi, we're Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix and we are AMAZING singers and actors!
Anyway last night I learned something that I thought I'd pass on in the form of TT. Johnny Cash's family called him J.R. Do you know what J.R. stood for??
NO clue...but can I just say that you saying, "Hi, we're Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix and we are AMAZING singers and actors!" made me LAUGH OUT LOUD! SO Anne...I could just smile about it all day.
Normally, I would not comment but this question was a really good one and I think I found the answer. (and by the way I am one of Emily Yates' friends and I even met your husband while Em and I were attending RICKS and we went on a river rafting trip as a big group).
Anyway, to the answer:
Cash was reportedly given the name "J.R." because his parents could not agree on a name, only on initials. When he enlisted in the United States Air Force, the military would not accept initials as his name, so he adopted John R. Cash as his legal name. In 1955, when signing with Sun Records, he took Johnny Cash as his stage name. His friends and in-laws generally called him John, while his blood relatives usually continued to call him J.R.

Any chance it's Johnny Roger, like my cute boy? Hooray for the return of trivial Tuesday!

Nope, but I heard that his given name at birth was Leaf. True?
John Robert?
Wasn't JR his name? It was his actual birth name, wasn't it?
I'm stumped. But so curious.
Here's what I love: you. And Walk the Line.
