Easter Part 1: Dying Eggs

Today I am posting copious amounts of Easter photos in three parts.

Dying eggs was fun as always. We used alphabet stickers to write names and initials. I think next year we'll try natural dyes.

P.S. I found some directions online for keeping yolks from turning green and wanted to pass them on: Once your water is boiling, let it boil hard for 3 minutes (lid off), then, turn the stove to low, cover with the lid, and set the timer for 8 minutes. Then rinse with cold water. It's the least boiling time I've ever seen before, and they turned out a lot better than some years.

I'm going to try your egg tip sometime, but here's how I do mine and they turn out great every time. Eggs in cold water (covered by an inch or so), heat to boiling. As soon as the water boils, take the pan off the heat, lid on, and set timer for 15 minutes. After timer goes off, put eggs in icy water right away. No green yolks!

Sounds almost identical. I'm sure my way is no better. I think the tip is not cooking them too long. (Some recipes call for so much time!)

I saw something on pinterest this year about baking the eggs in the oven. Have you ever tried that? I'm wondering how they'd turn out.

I did see that on Pinterest and clicked over to Alton Brown's recipe to do it. But when I read that it makes them harder to peel I changed my mind. It's hard enough for my kids to peel their eggs! I am very curious about how they taste, though. I think they're supposed to be especially creamy...

Eggs are a food I don't particularly enjoy, so I passed on making them, but in the future when I have eggs to make for people I think I will try it. :)
