So this last week I had a semi-nervous breakdown. It really wasn't that bad, but I had a few moments of not loving my life. Sometimes I seriously struggle to be a good, fun, patient mom and to cherish that role. By yesterday I was coming out of it, thanks in part to some good chats. On the phone with my sister Liz (mother of four): "Well, Anne, welcome to being normal." And "I had a similar week a while ago. My mother-in-law came to watch the kids and I went to T.J. Maxx for like 2 hours. It was GREAT! Sometimes you just need some Retail Therapy." Retail Therapy?! How funny is she?! I think I'm going to needlepoint that on a pillow. Later I talked to my friend, Emily. She gave me lots of great tips, among which was that I need more creative outlets. To make my nervousbreakdownrecovery complete, Taylor took me out on a real date last night. WAHOO! Aunt Sara and Grandma came down to our apartment to watch Blaine and we went to Ottavio's and then to Barnes&Noble. That is like my ideal date! It was so fun just to be out together and totally carefree. I believe in Date Night! At Barnes&Noble I got a great idea for a creative outlet. Cupcakes. I got a new cookbook for only $7.98 and it's all about cupcakes! And they are AMAZING cupcakes. So yeah, not just that I'm going to become a cupcake-making fiend or anything, but I decided I'm going to work on my culinary skills in general. So I'm excited about that. Blaine's bday is approaching, so look out world for my cupcakes!!
Today has been a nice, relaxed Saturday. This morning we had pancakes and then went for a long walk. It's gorgeous out--sunny, warm, tulips everywhere, and trees full of blossoms (I have become obsessed with Weeping Cherry trees and have told Taylor I really want one in front of our house someday). Here's my declaration/confession: I AM SO OUT OF SHAPE! We were walking--WALKING--and I was dying on the hills. Seriously kids, I need to get my booty in gear.
After our walk we had some delish pasta, played with Blaine, and blogged. Saturdays are just the best because you're the boss of them! Plus I've already shaved my legs and I'm about to iron my clothes so I'll be all set for church (Saturday is a special day, you know). Here's to a great Sabbath...

oh and i love the title! you're so clever!
Ohhh, I like the template you used! I didn't even see that one before! Oh man, I second what your sister said, "Welcome to being normal". No matter what ANYONE says, all moms get mad at their kids and frustrated with life at times. Oh, and Kate is right, you are beautiful!
You and your blog are charming. And cupcakes! What a lovely creative outlet, one I hadn't considered before. Let me know what you think about blogger vs. wordpress, I'll be curious to know which you prefer. Love you.
Love it, Anne!
Maybe I will look up the title of that book on Amazon.com and get started with cupcakes of my own... Great idea! XOXO Lorraine
